Your RCA has expired. Here is what to do.
It happens often: you forget the date, you set off, and you only remember when you see a police car. Here is what to do.
Why you cannot drive
RCA, Romania’s mandatory third-party liability insurance, is required by law for any car on public roads. Without a valid policy you risk a fine, and your plates and registration certificate can be withheld until you prove you are insured.
More importantly: if you cause an accident while uninsured, you pay for all the damage out of your own pocket, and the amounts can be enormous.
What to do in the first few minutes
- Stop driving the car.
- Call us or message us on WhatsApp with the details of the car.
- We prepare quotes from several insurers, for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months.
- You choose the policy, we issue it, and you are covered again.
If the car stays parked
You are not obliged to buy a full year. If you rarely use the car or you are about to sell it, you can take RCA for 1 or 3 months and extend it when you need to. We calculate the quotes for each period so you can compare.
Is registration still pending?
If the car was just bought or is waiting for temporary plates, RCA is issued in the new owner’s name. We can arrange it in the same place as your registration file, so you do not have to go to two places.
How to avoid it next time
We note your expiry date and let you know before it runs out. You can also set a reminder on your phone three weeks ahead, so you have time to compare offers.
You do not have to know it all.
You bring the car documents to our office, we prepare the file, and you go straight to the counter. If you have a question first, give us a call.
